Georgia Shakespeare Annouces 'The Search for Ralphie!'

Open auditions for lead role in 'A Christmas Story'

Georgia Shakespeare announces open auditions for the lead role of “Ralphie” in the live stage production of A Christmas Story to run Dec 7-26, 2010, at Georgia Shakespeare on the campus of Oglethorpe University. Four open auditions will be held at various locations around Atlanta in the coming weeks. For the role of Ralphie, Georgia Shakespeare is looking for boys who look between the ages of 10 and 12, but are not over the age of 13.

Open auditions will be held over consecutive weekends in September at the following outlets: The Decatur Book Festival, Decatur; Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta, Downtown; Chocolate Perks, Duluth; and Bloomingdale’s Lenox Square, Buckhead. Audition location details are on the attached document and available online at www.gashakespeare.org. Semi-finals and finals will be held in October. The panel of judges will be made up of local celebrities and Associate Artists and staff members from Georgia Shakespeare.

The Company is looking for boys who are confident and comfortable in front of a crowd and have an interest in acting. There are no experience requirements to audition at any one of the open calls. Contestants in the open call rounds will be asked to tell a joke and a funny story about themselves. Semi-final auditions and final auditions will be by-invitation-only and taken from the pool of actors in all four rounds of open auditions. The winner of “The Search for Ralphie” will be cast in the lead role in the live stage play of the perennial favorite: A Christmas Story. Fans know the popular movie from its marathons on TV during the holiday season. Ralphie Parker wants just one thing for Christmas, just one thing: An Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action 200-Shot Range Model BB Rifle with a Compass in the Stock. But can Ralphie survive the last couple weeks before Christmas and overcome the seemingly insurmountable obstacles to his owning the precious Red Ryder BB gun? “You’ll shoot your eye out, kid.”

The show runs December 7 – 26.

The Search for Ralphie

WHO IS RALPHIE? 

Ralphie is the hero of A Christmas Story. He is an imaginative and adventurous boy who must battle school bullies and convince his parents to buy him the PERFECT Christmas gift. For this paid role, Georgia Shakespeare is looking for boys who look between the ages of 10 and 12 years old (but are not older than 13 years of age), who know how to tell a joke, can get out of any tricky situation, and love to perform. 



WHAT WILL I HAVE TO DO IF I WIN?
The winner of “The Search for Ralphie” contest will be cast as Ralphie in A Christmas Story at Georgia Shakespeare. The winner will be required to attend all scheduled rehearsals and perform in all scheduled performances. A 2010 calendar will be provided at the Round 2 auditions, but generally, rehearsals will be held from mid-November through opening of the show on December 8, during after-school, evening and weekend hours. Performances are scheduled through the December 26, 7pm performance.

HOW DO I AUDITION?

There are three rounds of auditions:



ROUND 1 – Open Auditions
For Round 1 auditions, all contestants will be asked to tell a joke and a true-life story about themselves. The story and joke should not exceed one and a half minutes in length. Those auditioning may attend any one of the following Round 1 dates/locations. All contestants must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The panel of judges will be comprised of local celebrities and Associate Artists and staff members from Georgia Shakespeare.

At each event we will only see the first 60 contestants who sign up at the events. Sign up starts ONLY 30 minutes prior to the event start time:

ROUND 2 – Semi-Finals

Semi-finalists will be invited to this audition via contact from Georgia Shakespeare. At the semi-final auditions, contestants will be asked to tell their joke and true-life story about themselves. We will also ask contestants to prepare a short selection from the play (we will furnish contestants with the selection ahead of round 2) and participate in a group improv exercise with one of the judges.

The Candler Park Fall Fest is an annual festival produced by the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization. Nearly 10,000 attend.

The Candler Park Fall Fest celebrates the Candler Park community with over one hundred vendors, great local musicians, food, a road race, children's entertainment and a tour of some of Atlanta's most beautiful homes.

The Candler Park Fall Fest is a great way to celebrate life in one of Atlanta's favorite in-town neighborhoods.

The Candler Park Fall Fest will have activities throughout the day for children of all ages.

Some of the children's activities include face painting, sand art, inflatables and free craft projects.

The Candler Park Fall Fest 5K kicks off the two day event on Saturday October 23rd at 11:00 AM.

All proceeds go to the Candler Park Neighborhood Organization (CPNO).
